Delpozo S/S '14

The sheer amazing-ness of Delpozo's Spring/Summer '14 runway show at NYFW.

With a designer whose background is in Architecture, it's no shock to see such beautifully constructed garments - whether he knew he was doing it not. Just take a look at those ruffled shorts and the general oversized, and dare I say, bulbous aspects of almost every design.

I want it all.

JW Anderson

It's been a while, hasn't it? Blame the job. It's always the job.

I came upon the images for JW Anderson's first advertising campaign a few days ago, and, I gotta say, I love the simplicity of them. I feel we'll definitely be seeing some interesting images for seasons to come from this Irish gent.

PS, those white shoes.

ELYSE TAYLOR & PURPLE MAGAZINE

Elyse Taylor, shot by Matteo Montanari in an NYC apartment.

Things to note: 1. Elyse is a hands-down babe. 2. I am falling more and more in love with those furry Celine shoes, no matter how inappropriate they may be. And 3. That Vivienne Westwood headdress may just be the flower crown to end all flower crowns.

THE CLOSING OF LMFF

Don't hate me, but, I am going to start this report with a negative. A negative that I spoke about on the night with a few of my lady friends. And that is whether or not the magic of a runway show is taken away with the knowledge that you can, the very next day, walk into the store of the brand you saw, and buy whatever item it was that took your fancy? No? Just me? Ok I'm glad we covered that. And on a side note, I do think it is infact great that Melbourne has it's very own fashion week. Have I won you back yet?

Anyway, back to the task at hand and that is my opinion on the brands we saw and loved (or hated) at the closing night of L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival. To open the show, we were graced with she who I personally was most excited for, Karen Walker.

What did we learn? Suits are in and as such, I need one. After lusting after something printed for oh, the last 6 or so months, I am now questioning whether a block colour of say... Tangerine, may just be a little better.

Side notes: I definitely need to invest in a second pair of sunnies by this brand. If 80 year old's can rock 'em (see here), then god damn it so can I.

To follow, Kuwaii. What did we learn? In a world, ok city, where the colour black reigns supreme, this brand is teaching us something new for Autumn and that is, pastels are cool too. Especially lime cape-come-coats. And that's a fact.

Oh Leonard St, thank you for reminding me why I intend on purchasing at least 3 beanies in an assortment of colours for our impending cold season. Thank you, thank you. What else did we learn? A fear of birds should not, in anyway, shape or form, hinder your undying love for that swan print. I just know you want it and don't worry, I'm right there with you.

I won't even lie, I hadn't heard of Limedrop before approximately 7.45pm on Sunday evening. Embarrassing yes, but at least I was pleasantly surprised. What did we learn? Florals might have been stealing the thunder of every other print for, I don't know, ever, but this bright and bold beauty is certainly something to consider for your Autumn wardrobe. Most notably, that bomber.

The offerings from Gorman were as to be expected, and that means wonderful. Much like the show I had seen previously in the week, they stuck to their tried and trusted method of fun and quirky styling to highlight this seasons offerings. Plus, they had silver shoes, and that is only ever a good thing.

Second to last (or were they, I can't remember), is Jolet. Sticking to a more traditional colour palette for Autum and a graphic print as a means of injecting some vibrance, this collection was well put together in terms of it's overall aesthetic, but I've not yet decided whether or not that is a good thing.

Now, according to Secret South, orange is in, and I for one, am fine with that. So that's, well, that. Another thing to note, the above may or may not be the perfect casual-yet-formal-enough coat to see anyone through an Autumn or Winter. Thoughts?

#LMFFNOW

Ah L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Week, this countries little sister to Sydney's Mercedez Benz Fashion Week. And she's back! Last night, courtesy of the hosts of the Famous For Fashion event, Fashion Journal, I found myself situated with 2 free tickets. Have I told you how much I enjoy free shit? No? Well I do, a lot.

This show featured a fine (oh so fine) selection of retailers situated along the Chapel St strip of fashion. To open the night however, we had the divine opportunity to listen to the musings of one very heavily 80's influenced duo (synths and turtlenecks were definitely a key theme, and I for one was not disappointed). But I disgress. The first retailer of the night was the eccentric vintage store we like to call Shag. A wild selection of garments thrown together to create some colourful and damn right crazy outfits which I was very much impressed by.

Next up on my list of cool shit for the eyeballs is Alice McCall. With the combination of applique and lace, this collection is surely going to get the ladies all fired up this season.

Almost last and definitely not least, actually my favourites of the night, Gorman. This brands use of fresh and exotic prints never fails to lure me in and this collection was no exception. I will also be seeing these guys on Sunday at the closing night for the festival and am very intrigued to see what they will produce for a longer show. Also, on a side note, they gave away FREE socks in our goodie bags. FREE.

To close the night we had Shakuhachi. I know what your thinking... Shaku-who? Crazy name. Crazy clothes (kind of). There was a lot of sequins and sparkle in this collection and it was definitely one for making that grand entrance at an event. And that orange number? Hello favourite item of the night.

And just like that, the recap is over and I am going to sit my ass down for the rest of the night, in preparation for one hell'a busy weekend.

DION LEE FOR WOOLMARK

Australia's representation for the 2013 Woolmark competition by the wonderful Dion Lee.

You can certainly see why this beautiful, spine tingling even (sorry, I couldn't resist) collection was chosen. I mean really, how many people can design a coat/hat hybrid and have the end result come out this magnificent?

Safe to say this collection has sparked my interest (ok need/must/whatever) at sourcing an 'IT' coat for winter. And I say this despite the fact I'm currently sitting in 30 degree heat at 9.30 in the night, which has got to be a good thing on Mr Lee's part. Very good sir, very good indeed.

And in more up-to-date Woolmark news (which is still approximately a week old), it was Christian Wijnants that ended up taking the covetable prize of $100,000 and the chance to be stocked in some of the most prestigious boutiques around the world. You can read a few words and see Christian's collection here

MARY KANTRANTZOU A/W13

Mary Katrantzou Ready-to-Wear A/W 2013
I don't know about anyone else but I am absolutely frigging loving Mary Kantrantzou's A/W13 collection. Wanting to shift her focus this season from prints to a more structured and focused silhouette, she surely didn't disappoint.

That said though, this beauty was definitely a highlight of the show for me, I just can't go past the almost hand-painted look of the print (not forgetting that stunningly vibrant shade of blue!) It's asymmetrical cut is an added bonus.

And, on a side note, Mary herself is going to be here in good old Melbourne for Fashion Week to not only showcase her designs, but she will be opening the god damn thing on the 19th of March. Of course, I will be saving all my coin until then in the hopes of securing myself a ticket to what will undoubtedly be an unforgettable night for the Melbourne fashion scene.

FREE SHIT

Klein's Perfumery, a store which up until Christmas Day, I had no idea existed. However, having been so very generously gifted a (gift)certificate from Mr Smith's parents, I knew I'd have to give this place a visit, and pronto. Even "fake" money somehow manages to burn a whole in my pocket. I disgress.

I made the trip over to good old Fitzroy yesterday and, holy shitballs, how I lived without this store in my life up until now I have no idea.

The only thing I had pre-meditated using my voucher on was an exfoliator. Because what better way to treat yourself than scrubbing your body with what feels like a sand-paste mixture. Yummy. After speaking to the super knowledgable sales assistant, who simply stated 'if I could handle the smell of this stuff, it's definitely the one to get' I had pretty much decided this was the one for me. I won't lie and say it took much convincing, almost as soon as I saw it was l'Occitane I was sold. Don't ask me why, I've never owned anything by the French brand which could either prove or disprove my opinion of it being fancy and, for lack of a better word, good.

However, after now using it for the first time I can indeed confirm that this shit is is balls to the walls awesome. I left the shower feeling baby butt soft and if that isn't the aim of a good exfoliator I don't know what is. So, in short, I would highly recommend this bad boy for anyone a. willing to spend $55 for a product which is on your body for approximately 2.5 minutes and b. who doesn't mind smelling like Play-Doh. It'll re-ignite some glorious childhood memories if nothing else.

As for the unneccesary gathering of (yet more) candles. I knew once I found these little scamps, the original thoughts swirling around my brain of taking the matching moisturiser to the exfoliator home, were a pipe-dream that only the past me could deliberate on.

Plus, 5 new treats are totally (TOTES) better than 2. And let's face it, the whole trip was a meagre attempt at taking home the most goods, for as close to $100 (voucher value), as possible.

CHANEL + SCOTLAND = GENIUS

The number one question on my mind this week? Why the fuck did I not come back to the motherland for this years festive period. Not that I would have even had the chance to attend the Chanel Métiers d'Art show in Edinburgh, but still, it would have been fun to hang around and try to snap some of the beautiful people surrounding it.

The show itself... Man alive was that shit hot. With a massive nod to Scottish heritage I couldn't help but feel a sense of pride that Mr Lagerfeld chose not only this direction for the collection, but the also the historic Scottish location. Lace, tartan, embroidery and feathers (and bagpipes), what more could you ask for on a cold Monday in December.

And just for the sake of reppin' the home turf. Here is a photo of the Linlithgow Palace, the castle ruins in which the show took place in.

So this is a little late I’m not gonna lie (blame moving house and internet connection issues). But here is my photographic recap of some of my favourite looks from the second designer series runway at Melbourne Spring Fashion Week. Featuring Arthur Gallan AG, above., Carly Hunter Label,  Alice Euphemia, LIFEwithBIRD, Jayson Brunsdon, YB J'aime by Yeojin Bae, Manning Cartel & Thurley.

Safe to say my favourite of the night was LIFEwithBIRD. Why? (THAT PLAYSUIT) Well, their pastel palette and choice of soft, delicate prints was beauteous and the laid back silhouettes were definitely a look I want to take into this upcoming Summer. I have a bit of a bad habit in this here Australian climate for ditching my “good” clothes in favour of anything cotton which will keep me cool in 35+ degrees. NOT THIS YEAR.
